What Do You Do to Reduce the Appearance of Scars in a Facial Procedure? with Dr. Jimmy Waldrop

One of the things that keeps people from getting a facial procedure is often the fear of scarring. You may be desiring a facelift, or an eyelid surgery, but you don’t ever follow through because of the fear that a scar is going to be present for years to come on an area that you can’t easily hide.

Here at RefinedLooks Plastic Surgery, there are many different things our surgeons do to camouflage the scarring. “The first thing is during any sort of facial procedure, whether it’s a facelift, upper and lower eyelid surgery, or a lip lift, the goal is to hide the scars in natural skin crease,” says Dr. Waldrop.

So, what is a natural skin crease? It can be defined as areas like right below the nose or right in front of or behind the ear or even right along the eyelashes. When the scar is in one of these areas, it’s able to be hidden very easily.

In addition to just making sure the scar is in one of those ideal areas of the skin, we recommend a gentle massage to the scarred area. We offer a variety of products like silicone gel that are great for massaging into the area to ultimately diminish the appearance of the scar.

If you have a more persistent scar, we also offer laser treatments that can go deeper and resolve an issue that massaging won’t be able to appropriately touch. An underrated preventative measure is simply avoiding sun exposure. Did you know that Fall is primetime for elective plastic surgery? Why? Because you won’t have the temptation of laying out by the pool with a fresh scar. You’re giving your body the time it needs to properly heal out of the direct exposure of the sun.

All of these are great treatments for scarring, but the first and most important step to minimize any sort of permanent scarring is choosing the right surgeon. Our surgeons at RefinedLooks Plastic Surgery are some of the best in their field.

Our surgeons lead the way in innovative cosmetic, plastic, reconstructive and non-invasive procedures. When choosing a plastic surgeon, it is very important to understand the regulations and accreditation of your surgeons.

RefinedLooks Plastic Surgery is a physician group owned plastic surgery practice. This means that we have met all the legal requirements and training to legally perform non-invasive procedures to our clients.

So, if you’re ready to take the first step, schedule a consultation with one of our amazing surgeons and get started on making those improvements you’ve been waiting for!
